Jiji PressTOKYO (Jiji Press) — The Economy, Trade and Industry Ministry is considering creating a music content distribution system utilizing artificial intelligence and other state-of-the-art technologies, Jiji Press learned Sunday.
The system will enable profit distribution automatically according to the level of contributions by various creators, including parodies and other secondary works produced from original music tunes, and choreographers, according to informed sources.
In fiscal 2019, the ministry will provide assistance to companies that develop experimental apps for online trading, the sources said.
In recent years, many online videos of arranged versions of original songs have gained popularity. But those who upload such videos without the necessary permission may be subject to a penalty under the copyright law.
In response, the ministry plans to make it easier for arranged works to be released on the internet on condition of approval from the creators of the original works and to ensure that profits are distributed to all parties concerned, including the producers of the original and arranged works, according to the sources.
Specific rules will be stipulated in contracts that service users conclude when they start to use related apps. Cutting-edge blockchain technologies will be utilized to prevent the terms of the contracts from being altered, the sources said. Meanwhile, it is difficult to determine in advance the levels of contributions to sales made by each of the creators involved.
Under the planned new system, AI will analyze users’ purchase records, results of related surveys and other factors, and profit distribution rates will be calculated based on the outcomes of the analysis, the sources said.
Concerns have been growing recently over data domination on the internet by four U.S. information technology giants — Google, Amazon.com, Facebook and Apple — collectively known as GAFA.
The ministry apparently hopes to block data domination by such IT titans through the system for automatically distributing profits based on certain rules recorded on blockchain, according to the sources.Speech
