The Yomiuri ShimbunEzaki Glico Co. plans to start selling liquid baby formula as early as March.
The company’s new product is expected to serve as an emergency supply in times of disaster. It will be named “Icreo baby milk” and will come in paper packages containing 125 milliliters of formula.
Liquid baby formula can be used immediately upon opening and is convenient during disaster situations when water and gas supplies are cut. The government has permitted its sale since August last year. The firm would be the first to produce such formula as a domestic manufacturer.
The company’s product has a shelf life of six months and can be stored at room temperature.
“Liquid baby formula is useful and its use will spread,” Ezaki Glico President Katsuhisa Ezaki said at a press conference in Tokyo on Wednesday. The price has yet to be announced.
