Diet debate on Kake scandal likely in July

Jiji Press TOKYO (Jiji Press) — The Diet may hold an off-session meeting within July with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe present to discuss a favoritism scandal involving school operator Kake Educational Institution headed by a friend of Abe, lawmakers said Friday.

The meeting is seen taking place at the Budget Committee of the House of Representatives in the week beginning July 24, according to senior Diet affairs officials of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party and the main opposition Democratic Party.

The LDP and the DP also aim to hold an off-session debate at the Budget Committee of the House of Councillors.

The two parties will hold a meeting of their Diet affairs chiefs on Tuesday to discuss the schedules of the off-session meetings.Speech
