Japan, Denmark to cooperate in resources development in Arctic

Jiji Press COPENHAGEN (Jiji Press) — Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his Danish counterpart, Lars Lokke Rasmussen, confirmed Monday their countries’ stepped-up cooperation in resources development and research in the Arctic and Greenland.

At their meeting in the Danish capital of Copenhagen, the two leaders also agreed that Japan and Denmark will work more closely together in the fields of renewable energy and maritime affairs.

They affirmed the importance of China’s role over North Korea’s nuclear and missile development. At a press conference following the meeting, Rasmussen strongly condemned acts of provocation.

Abe and Rasmussen also confirmed that the rule of law should be thoroughly maintained, apparently keeping in mind China’s growing assertiveness in the East China Sea and the South China Sea.Speech
